PCB selects the men’s team coaches for Pakistan

Once the formalities are finished, the decision will be made public.
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has finalized former South African batter Gary Kirsten and former Australian bowler Jason Gillespie for the positions of red-ball and white-ball head coach, respectively, for the men’s national team, according to a Saturday report from Geo News.

After all procedures have been fulfilled, the choice will be made public. The PCB posted job openings on its website and accepted applications through April 15th, sources stated.

Kirsten was the head coach of the Indian side that won the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. She is presently a member of the Gujarat Titans coaching staff in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Gillespie, meantime, just announced his resignation as the men’s head coach of Adelaide Strikers and South Australia. He had previously guided Yorkshire to back-to-back division one wins in 2014 and 2015.

The Pakistan cricket team’s assistant coach, who will support the red-ball and white-ball coaches, was advertised by the PCB on Saturday as well. Candidates for the position must have three years of experience working for a domestic team, franchise, or overseas squad, and a minimum of Level 2 coaching accreditation.

As per the PCB advertisement, interested candidates are need to apply by April 20 at the latest at 5 p.m.

It should be mentioned that Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick, the former coaching staff of Pakistan, who were transferred to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore, resigned from their roles in January of this year due to a change in their responsibilities in November 2023.

Bradburn was appointed head coach and Arthur was designated director of the Pakistan men’s cricket team in April 2023. Puttick, a former cricket player for South Africa, has been the batting coach since April 2023.

All parties involved reached a mutually agreeable agreement, according to PCB.
