In 2025, PCB plans to hold PSL 10 in addition to the IPL
September 2024 was also considered the date for PSL.
The first three months of 2025 are already jam-packed with matches, therefore, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is having trouble selecting an appropriate timeframe for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10.
The PCB normally hosts the PSL in January and March, with the event often beginning in February and ending in the middle of March. According to a local publication, there is already a crowded calendar for next year, so this might not be the case.
Pakistan has arranged a multi-format series against South Africa in January, following which they will play a white-ball series in New Zealand. Pakistan is slated to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in February and March.
Following that, Pakistan will host a tri-nation series including South Africa and New Zealand in advance of the ICC tournament, shortly before the Champions Trophy begins.
PSL club franchise owners have expressed worries about their teams’ three months of nonstop competition. The board rejected the owners’ first plan, which called for the league to begin at the end of January and terminate in February.
The board believes that the tri-series is very important because it would be Pakistan’s first series of its kind since 2004.
Now, the PCB wants to host the PSL in addition to the IPL in 2020. The owners of the franchises, however, are worried about this plan because they think that elite players would choose the Indian Premier League over the PSL because of the higher pay, which might negatively impact the league’s reputation and audience.
The board also rejected the suggestion that the PSL take place in September 2024 since Pakistan will visit Australia in November 2024 and England will visit Pakistan later in the year to play a Test series.
The franchise owners and the PCB have met several times, but no agreement has been reached thus far. The PCB has not yet decided when to start the PSL since it is expected to clash with other cricket tournaments, which may cause issues with attendance.
