A historic second Bangladesh Test for Sri Lanka

The venue for the game is Chattogram.

Sri Lanka has amassed 531 points in the second Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh, which is now underway. This is the biggest Test match total ever without a single century.

In the first Test match, Sri Lanka won by 328 runs at Sylhet thanks to two hundreds each from Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis.

Along the way, they broke a number of records, such as their 280 in the first inning, which is currently the lowest total ever to feature a double-hundred stand after de Silva and Mendis added 202.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat in the second Test, which was played at Chattogram. On the first day, they scored 314-4 by stumps, and when Shakib Al Hasan returned to the Test team, he removed them for 531 on the second.

Nishan Madushka (57), Dimuth Karunaratne (86), Kusal Mendis (93), Dinesh Chandimal (59), de Silva (70), and Mendis (92 not out) are the six Sri Lankan batsmen who have scored more than fifty, however none have scored three figures.

Without a single century, this is currently the highest score in Test cricket history. The previous record was India’s 524-9 declared in Kanpur in 1976–1977 versus New Zealand. Though Mohinder Amarnath’s 70 was the highest individual score, six batters there also scored half-centuries.

Sri Lanka finishes the first Test innings within one run of the lowest Test total ever to feature two hundreds.

Sri Lanka breaks the record for the highest Test total without a century in the first innings of the second Test.

In the format, South Africa’s 517 against Australia in Adelaide during the 1997–98 season was the lowest all-out total. On that occasion, there were only five fifties (with Brian McMillan top-scoring with 87 not out), but there were three other scores in the innings of 37 or higher.

In a Test innings, this was also the sixth time that six half-centuries had occurred without a century. India were the first to do it (in the aforementioned Kanpur Test), then Pakistan (in Melbourne 1981/82 against Australia), Zimbabwe (in Harare 2003/04 against Bangladesh), Pakistan (in Napier 2009/10 against New Zealand), and England (in Leeds 2017 against the West Indies).

After two days, Bangladesh was 55-1 at stumps. Zakir Hasan (28), Taijul Islam (0), and Mahmudul Hasan Joy (21), who was sacked on 21.
