Usman Khan was given a five-year suspension by the ECB
The overseas player who bats right-handed recently participated in PSL 9.
The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) said on Friday that Usman Khan, a right-handed hitter, has been banned for five years and will not be allowed to play in any of the ECB’s sanctioned or sponsored competitions.
Usman, a foreign player who competed in the ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), chose to play for his country and was selected for the fitness camp at Kakul, Abbottabad.
Usman was asked whether he would be willing to represent Pakistan ahead of the World Cup. He said yes, and was eventually called up for the fitness camp in Kakul. This came about after his outstanding performance in the PSL 9, when he became the first batter to achieve two hundreds in a single edition.
The Emirates Cricket Board released a press release stating, “Batter Usman Khan has been found to have breached his obligations owed to Emirates Cricket Board.”
Following a thorough investigation, it was discovered that Usman had misled the ECB about his decision to play for the UAE team. He had also taken advantage of the opportunities and development the ECB had given him to pursue other opportunities, and it was clear that he no longer wanted to play for the ECB or meet the eligibility requirements that he was required to.
Usman competed as a local player in the UAE Category of the ECB-sanctioned International League T20 Season 2 earlier this year. A one-year ECB Employment Contract was also signed between Usman and the ECB.
This was carried out in order to provide him with security and enable him to meet the requirements necessary to be eligible to play cricket for the United Arab Emirates.
“After it was determined that Usman had broken his ECB-mandated obligations, he will be barred from all ECB-sanctioned leagues, tournaments, and local events held in the United Arab Emirates under the auspices of councils or academies for a period of five years.”
As the Green Shirts are ready to play New Zealand, Usman Khan is now at Kakul taking part in the fitness program run by the Pakistan Army.
Usman is expected to be called up for the series and bat in the middle order as the squad captained by Babar Azam works to finalize the roster for the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be held in the United States and the West Indies.
